Telephoning The Doctor

While your Doctor will take phone calls relating to your health during opening hours, if they are busy consulting, a message will be taken and your call will be returned at the end of the session.

On The Day Consultations

Each day we have a doctor assigned for "on the day" appointments that are reserved for patients who ring needing to be seen within 24 hours. These appointments cannot be booked in advance. Consultations are 15 minute long and available by appointment only. Please let us know if you require a longer consultation at the time of booking.

Please report to reception on arrival. If you have waited longer than 30 minutes please report back to reception to enquire about the delay. If you wish to cancel an appointment please do so as soon as possible.

Patients Health Information

Your medical record is confidential and available only to authorised members of staff. If you wish to transfer your medical records to another practice you will need to sign an authority & provide the new medical centre's address to do this. You can download and fill in this form prior to your visit to save time.

Following Up Test Results

Your doctor will advise you when your results are expected back at the practice. Please call and speak to the receptionist to find out if you need follow up care.

Patient Feedback

We are keen to know if you are unhappy with any aspect of the care you have received. Please feel free to talk with your doctor or Practice Manager or alternatively put your comments in the suggestion box. Although we would prefer to deal with your problems locally, if you wish, please contact the Health Services Commissioner on 1800 136 066.

Babies & Small Children

Play areas are provided for children. A changing area for babies is provided in the bathroom area.

Reminder System

Our practice is committed to preventative care. Your doctor will seek your permission to be included on our reminder recall system. A letter or SMS reminder will be sent to offer you preventative health care services appropriate to your care.


Urgent cases will be seen at any time. If you have an emergency, telephone immediately and discuss the problem or come directly to the Medical Centre. For major emergencies day or night, such as chest pain or trouble breathing or a major accident, call the ambulance immediately on 000 or 131 233.

After Hours and Home Visits

If you have an urgent problem when the surgery is closed, go to the hospital or call an ambulance if appropriate. GPs in the area rotate in providing after hours service in the accident & emergency department of the hospital. Home visits are available for regular patients of the practice whose condition prevents them from attending the surgery.

Obstetric Patients

Dr Thomson, Dr Flore, Dr Chen & Dr Docherty rotate in providing 24 hours care everyday for Obstetric patients attending this practice.

Ethics & Policy

An ethical and confidentiality code is upheld by all staff at Milton Medical Centre. We have a policy of seeing emergency cases on the day and attending to women in labour. We request your tolerance of possible delays as we feel this policy benefits the whole community. Telephoning ahead of your appointment time may help you avoid this problem.

Wheelchair Friendly

Milton Medical Centre has various entry points which are accessible by wheelchair and are fitted with automatic sliding doors. The carpark has allocated disabled parking areas with clear access to these doors. If you require any help from the car park area please call reception to arrange someone to meet you.
